| All the pictures above were taken in Glasgow. As Rena
showed us around, we saw mold growing on everything - paths, concrete,
steel railings... I caught an action shot of Rena in her football game.
Then you can see some architecture in some of the pictures, with one
showing a date (that and the one beside it were designed by Charles
Rennie MackIntosh). The picture on the second row left is from Rena's living
room window and shows her university. The next picture is from the
bedroom and you can see how all the flats are attached making one big
building. The city has no single houses. Even hotels are attached within
the rows of buildings. The last 2 pictures on the second row show how
busy the downtown city streets are! The last 2 on the 3rd row show views of the
city top. |

| The pictures above show the scenery as we drove north
into the Scottish Highlands. We stopped along Loch Lomond. You'll
notice the mountains are rolling and treeless! They are trying to get
the natural trees to grow again. The last picture has some of the sheep
underlined...they are all over the mountain. |
| Finally we came to a spot called "Rest and Be Thankful".
There was an old gravestone by the highway and beautiful views. It was
impossible to count all the sheep. And out where it seems there's not
much but the best scenery, there's a phone booth to get your call out
and let everyone know where you are! |
| Along the way we stopped to walk and admire some bridges
and common fences. The Weavers Restaurant Outlet looked like a quaint
little place to have lunch, but it was the worst and most expensive food
we had! The next picture shows Rena searching for our lost hub cap after
we had a flat tire! The roads are extremely narrow! |
| Now we are in Glen Coe and the two pictures just above
here are of the Three Sisters Mountains that have a Hidden Valley just
beyond what we could see. |
| Now we have reached Fort Augusta at the southern tip of
Loch Ness. There was a mist just rising early in the morning off the
Loch but we didn't see old Nessie there. What a gorgeous Loch! I found a
stone at the bottom of the Loch that sure looks like a piece of old
Nessie's tooth! The Highland Cows are beautiful too and know what to do
with those big horns. |
| We had to stop and take pictures of the Heather that
grows on the mountains before we headed to Stirling. |
| We stopped at another shop that had some old metal
production looms on display. Then you can see an Inn hidden away up in
the Highlands...looks so peaceful there. |
| The pictures above are of Stirling castle and the city
around it. They built their castles way up on the highest points. Below
you can see the old graveyards around the castle. There were graves from
the 1500's there but so worn it was impossible to read the dates. |
| After the pictures of the gravestones, the pictures are
taken in Edinburgh. You can see what the city looks like plus the big
castle up on their hill. We toured around inside that castle and took
pictures. |
| From high up at the castle, I could see a small house
surrounded by trees within the busy city. Then we headed south to
England and our first stop was Hadrian's wall. The Roman Emperor Hadrian
visited Britain in 122 AD, and ordered a wall to be built between the
Solway Firth in the West and the River Tyne in the east "to separate
Romans from Scottish Barbarians". This wall still exists and spans 73
miles across the country. |
| We headed south again to Birmingham. On the way we saw a
Wind Farm. Exploring through Birmingham, we found out they have an
extensive canal system throughout the city. They also had an impressive
opera house with a huge pipe organ! |
| Now we are at Stone Henge! There's a nice close-up of
the surface of the stones. The stones are barricaded from the public so
people can't touch them. They are very big and impressive! |
| The waterfall is part of Tampere, Finland's hydro plant.
They had some gorgeous sculptures around the city and cute signs showing
where to tie up your dog while stopping to shop! |
| The second picture above here is of the train station in
Helsinki with a close-up of the sculptures holding the lights. We
visited the Arabia factory and saw an amazing ceramic exhibition. |
| Then we also visited Sibellius' Monument. It was getting
a bit dark. After that, my batteries ran out in my camera so I didn't
get to take pictures of an awesome church built into granite! The church
is called Temppeliaukio. Here's a website
that has a few pictures -
http://www.muuka.com/finnishpumpkin/churches/helsinki/chteh/church_chteh.html
it really worth seeing. |
| We met up with Christian in London. They still have the
cute phone booths sitting around and all the buses are double deckers.
Picadilly Square is extremely busy and has huge billboards all over.
Below you can see some "living sculptures". Rock and Liz are standing in
front of the Thames River with the old Parliament buildings on the other
shore. |
We saw some works by Dali and one of his huge sculptures
out by the river. All the taxis in the UK look like that black car with
advertising on them. The lions are in Trafalgar Square. After all our
exploring, Rock and Rena were exhausted! |
