Cut and Sew Necklines
1. Draw your neckline onto the fabric. Use a sewing machine set on a zig zag stitch and sew along the drawn neckline. 2. Cut the excess fabric off along the inside of the sewn line. 3. Hold the neckline up against your machine without stretching too much and determine how many stitches you will need for the collar. You may want to make it with a few stitches less to give a tighter feel. 4. Cast on with waste yarn and finally with dental floss or ravel cord. 5. Knit, main T using desired color, 4 or how ever many rows you want. Knit one row at T+2. Knit at main T another 4 or how ever many rows you knitted. 6. Remove on waste yarn or with a garter bar. 7. Hang the cut fabric onto the needles with front side facing you. Push back behind latches. 8. Re-hang the collar as you took it off. Push the collar stitches through the sweater fabric. Push these back behind the latches. 9. Pick up the first row knitted. Pull off the ravel cord and waste yarn. 10. Push this through the stitches that are behind the latches. 11. Knit one row at very loose tension and cast off. Variations You can do many variations by experimenting. One nice variation is to add three or four strands of a contrast yarn e-wrapped around the needles during the knitting of the looser middle row of the band. You would have to remove the neckline on waste yarn or use a garter bar, e-wrap the selected needles and then return the neckline band on top of the e-wrapped needles, push all behind the latches with the needles all pulled out to make it easier for the carriage to knit in. Then continue as above. If you need more instruction with this, please send me a note.
