Double Crochet Edging This edging is suitable for any use. It's particularly good when you want the same kind of edging on the sides as well as both ends of your project (blankets, wash cloths, etc.) When you are beginning, pull your needles all the way out. Using a double or triple strand of the main yarn or contrast yarn, crochet cast on. *Then, knit one row with main color at MT+2. (If you are using a thick yarn with little elasticity, you may do better by manually knitting in this row) Pull all the needles out again leaving the stitches in the hooks. Crochet cast on behind your work with more of the same double or triple strands of yarn. Push all stitches behind latches. * MT+2 knit across again. (Here it will be better to manually knit this row) You can repeat these steps, as many times as you want, to make your edging as wide as you would like. Then with MT continue your project. To finish the project, after your last row, pull all stitches out to the end. Crochet cast on behind these stitches with the same double or triple stranded yarn. Continue as above from * to *. With the last row of knitting, once you have completed the crochet cast on as many times as you are doing it, use MT+5 to give a larger stitch for chain cast-off. For the sides of the garment or blanket, hold the completed project up to measure how many needles you will need. Then pull them out all the way and crochet cast on with the same double or triple stranded yarn. Push the cast on behind the latches. Hang the project with the right side facing the back. Push all work behind the latches and continue from * to *. Use MT+5 to give a larger stitch for chain cast-off.
