Easy Headband

headband.jpg (11687 bytes)closeband.jpg (24835 bytes)

This headband is very easy to knit. You can use any machine and make it any size you wish with a variety of patterns knitted in to make it unique.

I knitted this with Bernat Soft 'n Cozy 4 ply worsted weight yarn. This was knitted on a Brother 260 chunky with punch card #2 for a tuck stitch on the band surface.

Tension 6

Cast on 82 stitches for a medium head size. Add or take away as needed from your swatch to change the size.

Cast on with waste yarn and ravel cord (I use dental floss).

Knit 16 rows. (This is the back of band)

Knit one row at Tension 10 (this is a turning row).

Knit one row T6.

Knit one row, setting carriage at KC.

Knit 28 rows using card #2 for tuck stitch (or any kind of pattern you wish here)

Return to plain stockinette st. and knit 2 rows.

Knit one row at T10.

Knit 16 rows (for remaining back of band) -T6.

Push all stitches behind latches and pick up first row of knitting from dental floss. Pull these stitches through the last row of stitches and knit one row T10. Chain cast off.

Leave a long tail of about 15 inches to sew ends of band together.

If you want a narrower band, knit fewer rows. The seam end can be pleated to make it narrower for under the hair at the back of neck.
