Currently, I teach a variety of computer related subjects at Cambrian College in the School of Business. I enjoy teaching and interacting with students. I have also been actively involved in the local union (OPSEU Local 655), where I have served as a steward, newsletter editor, secretary, treasurer and chief steward.

I participate in a planned leave of absence program that affords me the opportunity to be involved in a variety of personal pursuits, one in every four years. This includes my computer consulting business, Bivens Software, a musical group (Tuba Boy), pottery and a variety of other interests.

I began teaching at Cambrian College in 1973, for the Visual Arts department. During that time, I was primarily responsible for the Ceramics area. As a member of the board of directors for the Ontario Potters Association, I was an active participant and promoter of pottery at the College and in Northern Ontario. Being the chairman of the college's Occupational Health and Safety committee, I was actively involved with the design and the installation of a ventilation system for the portable classrooms used by the department.

For a two-year period, I taught classes for the Visual Arts, Business and Mathematics departments. In 1980, I officially became a member of the Business department. Since that time, I have been involved with a variety of computer committees (eg., A.R.P.C, C.P.C, C.U.G., etc), a member of the College Council, a Union Steward, a member of various staff selection committees, a coordinator for the Information Services program, the editor of Communique (O.P.S.E.U. Local 655's newsletter), the secretary/treasurer of Local 655, a member of the Workload Monitoring Group, a member of the CSAC Standards Development Project for Computer Programmers, a collaborator in SEdNET, a member of the Internet Working Group, and a chair of the Academic Labs Sub-committee. I have participated in numerous recruiting sessions and represented the College at various conferences (eg., the World Craft Council Conference, the Fifth Canadian Symposium on Instructional Technology, etc.)

I currently teach computer related subjects, primarily within the Software Engineering Technology program.
